About

We started Save Sonny’s Sight because of our Husky Sonny. We adopted our boy from the pound, Aug of 2009, and by February he developed cataracts in both eyes literally over night. We found out that Huskies have a high rate of congenial cataracts.  The surgery was pretty expensive. We searched the net to find any support we could find in the time we needed before his eye sight was gone forever. We found a lot of sites, but many considered eye surgery to be cosmetics or non-emergency or it was not life threatening. So we turned to the net for help, first starting on twitter.

We raised most the money in just a few days.  We were so very thankful to the people who helped us.  As we thought more about this. We realized there were probably families like us who knew the consistences of a dogs eye sight and could not afford the surgeries.

Sonny went from a non barking dog, to a very loud dog. He went from playful to nipping and biting and not playing. He was consistently running into the walls, doors or tables.  Luckily this didn’t last too long.  Sonny had his surgery on both eyes April 5th 2010. They fixed his retinal detachment, cleared up the cataracts, and replaced his lenses. Sonny is been healing beautifully, and he is able run play and is no longer aggressive.
